Concept
An experiment fusing the translucent light of washi paper with modern lighting mechanisms. Borrowing from the Akari tradition while aiming for a weight that sits naturally on a contemporary table. The red cord is the only intentional color.
Process
- 01
Analyzed light-source-paper relationships through 10 Akari studies
- 02
Carved vertical ribs into a sphere base to test light leakage patterns
- 03
Designed base, dimmer, and cord as separate system components
- 04
Washi material with internal point light, rendered both lit and unlit states
